We realize that the plethora of challenges property managers have dealt with this year has forced them to think outside of the box when it comes to connecting, engaging, and keeping residents informed.
Plus, with coronavirus and social distancing continuing to dominate the conversation, having in-person gatherings with residents remain delayed or postponed.
Rest assured, there are plenty of ways for onsite teams to engage with residents this upcoming holiday season - even with social distancing in place.
Here are some fun ideas and useful recommendations for using your Mobile Doorman app & dashboard this holiday season:
1.) Planning gift-wrapping classes
We know wrapping gifts for friends and families can cause a lot of stress. So to help your residents prepare for gift exchanges, organize a virtual gift-wrapping class. For those that aren't experts in the art of gift-wrapping, this is a great opportunity to not only ease the stress of gift-wrapping but to bond with other residents as well going into the holidays.
2.) Hosting a resident game night
While your usual holiday party plans have most likely been put on hold this year, you can still bring your residents together for an evening of festive fun. With the help of apps, it's easier than ever for you to host a game of trivia, charades, and so much more. Make it competitive by separating residents into teams based on floor (or units) and have them compete against one another. Now that's our kind of ice-breaker.
3.) Notifying residents of your updated holiday office hours
When it comes to planning for the holidays, communication regarding office hours and where residents can get in touch with you while you're out of the office is crucial - especially this year. Creating a holiday-specific content tile that addresses any temporary changes in office hours is a quick, effective way of keeping your residents looped in. To help drive your residents to the tile, be sure to send an All-Resident message letting them know when new information is available.
4.) Planning a Virtual Cookie Decorating Contest
Canceling in-person cookie decorating stations this year? Ask residents to design their own cookies and share their favorite photos with fellow residents instead...right from their Mobile Doorman app (e.g. virtual bulletin boards). A little competition can also motivate your residents to get in on the action. Vote or comment on their favorite cookie in the bulletin board and in exchange, you can offer up a gift card or a festive holiday goodie bag to the winner!
5.) Show off those ugly sweaters at an ugly sweater party!
The holidays are the perfect time to dust off those ugly holiday sweaters. Host a Zoom happy hour and have residents show off their festive sense of style while testing their wits in a round of holiday trivia. Recognize and acknowledge residents with the most fashionable (or should we say least fashionable) holiday sweaters after the event. And if any of your residents aren't able to join in on the action, have them share a picture in your community bulletin board instead!
6.) Sharing a holiday security checklist with residents
Many will be staying home this season, but others will be traveling during the holidays too. This is a time of giving which also means apartment units will be filled with expensive items - opening the door for potential burglaries. It is imperative for property staff to share apartment security checklists to residents to ensure they take proper measures to reduce the risk of a break-in. Use Content Tiles to share links to valuable resources that highlight ways that residents can protect their own apartments as well as their fellow neighbors.
7.) Hosting a Virtual Holiday Decorating Competition
Holidays are never complete without festive decor - and with more people choosing to stay home for the holidays, this year is the perfect time for residents to experiment with new and exciting holiday decorations! Host a virtual decorating competition to show off your residents' decorating skills and get in the holiday spirit.
8.) Holiday maintenance preparations
Apartment maintenance and upkeep during the holidays is more than just putting up a few strands of lights and a tree. Plus, few things dampen the joy of the holidays like a laundry-list of urgent apartment maintenance requests. So this December, stay on top of easy maintenance needs that can save your property a lot of money (and headaches) by advising residents to take precautions when they're out of town such as letting the faucets drip or turning the heat down to conserve energy.
9.) Mixology class...but make it festive!
In one of our previous blog posts, we mentioned hosting a virtual mixology with your residents as a fun and safe way for your residents to gather and learn a few new recipes. With the holidays approaching, you can do exactly that - but with a festive twist. From mulled wine to holiday sangria to hot toddies, this holiday season can still be a merry and bright one for all of your residents - even from the comfort of their homes!
